Young, 1,97m tall Polish basso cantante Mikołaj Bońkowski, praised for his impressing voice, first studied geology and engineering, before he began his vocal studies at the Karol Lipiński Music Academy in Wrocław, with Prof. Bogdan Mikal, and which he completed at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden in the class of Prof. Edward Randall.
Masterclasses for voice, interpretation and audition-training with Francesco Bottigliero, Sylvain Camberling, Riccardo Mascia, Jolanta Nicolai, Eytan Pessen Matthias Rexroth and Wolfgang Schöne completed his musical education.
Since 2024, he works with the renowned bass and teacher Raymond Modesti in the Netherlands.
From the 2024/25 season, Mikołaj Bońkowski will be a member of the Ensemble at Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landestheaters Flensburg & Rendsburg, making his debuts as TSCHELIO in Prokofiev's „L'Amour des trois oranges“, ARPAD BALINDT in Paul Abraham's „Roxy und ihr Wunderteam“, GEORGE BENTON & PRISON GUARD 2 in Heggie's „Dead Man Walking“ and as STANLEY in Weill's „A Touch of Venus", and appear in special programs as well as in the "Festakt - Vorhang auf für 50 Jahre".
Guest-contracts brought him as MANDARIN in Puccini's „Turandot" and as ZUNIGA in Bizet's „Carmen“ to the Oper im Steinbruch St. Margarethen; as POLYPHEMUS in Händel's "Acis and Galathea" to the Polska Opera Królewska; as Alumnus of the HfM Dresden, he created the title-part of ONIROS in Alberto Arroyo's „Oniros - ein Musiktheater der Träume"; and together with his pianist Mateusz Słowikowski, he sang Solo-Song-Recitals at the Gerhard Hauptmann Museum in Szklarska Poręba and the ARS Augusta Görlitz, where he also embodied UBERTO in Pergolesi's „La Serva Padrona", the title-role of WICHTELCHEN in Marschalk's „Das Wichtelchen", and where he gave Solo-Recitals during the <Mozart und Schubert Tage>. Furthermore, he appeared as FOTIS in Martinůs „The Greek Passion“ to the Den Jyske Opera Aarhus and the Theater Osnabrück, where he also embodied DOTTORE GRENVILLE in Verdi's „La Traviata“ and SWALLOW in Britten's „Peter Grimes“.
Mr Bońkowski made his opera-debut as BARTOLO in Mozart's „Le Nozze di Figaro“ at the Opera Wrocławska and performed subsequently in conservatory productions Lamont others the title-role of Mozart's DON GIOVANNI, INFERNUS in R. Augustyns „Descendus Christi ad Infernum“, CHARLY in Szymanowski's „Loteria na mężów, czyli narzeczony nr. 69“ and STRANGER in the multimedia-spectacle „Synagoga – 22 Edith Stein“ in der Cathedral Św. Michała Archanioła.
Furthermore, he appeared regularly at the International Moniuszko Festival in the parts of KRZETYNA in „Ideał czyli nowa precjoza“ , LORO in "Karmaniol" and MICHAŁ in „Nowy Don Kiszot“, which he also performed at the Warszawska Opera Kameralna..
Several seasons, he collaborated with the Theatre-Collective Song of the Goat Theatre, where he wasCHIRON in „Andronicus - Synekdocha“, HORATIO in „Hamlet, the commentary“, EDMUND in „Songs of Lear“, CHORUS-LEADER in „Anty-Gone - TRYPTYK“ and TALTHYBIOS in „Warrior", guesting at the Tapiola Hall (Finland), the Shakespeare’s Globe London, the Shakespeare’s Festival Hamletscenen Helsignør (Denmark), the Israel Festival Jerusalem, the FITS Festival Sibiu (Romania), the TheATRIUM Festivalis Klaipėda (Lithuania), the VéNégy Fesztivál és Szinházy Találkozó (Hungary), the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, the Great Theater of China Shanghai and the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, the Shakespeare’s Theater Gdańsk and the CETA Piekarnia Performing Center Wrocław, as well as at the Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley. His Concert-Repertoire includes among others Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium Händel's Messiah, Beethoven's Messe in C-Dur and Żebrowski's Magnificat, Dvořák's Biblical Songs , Shostakovich`s Spanish Songs, as well as numerous other songs by German, Polish an Russian composers such as Brahms, Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Loewe, Moniuszko, Penderecki, Szymanowski, Mussorgsky oder Rachmaninow.
Mr Bońkowski had the pleasure, to work with CONDUCTORS and STAGE DIRECTORS such as Arnaud Bernard, Grzegorz Bral, Giuseppe Finzi, Valerio Galli, Krzysztof Garstka, Andreas Hotz, Philipp Kochheim, Natalia Kozłowska. Matthias Oldag, Jakob Peters-Messer or Thaddeus Strassberger
Competition-successes include, among others, the „Engagements-Award of the Semperoper Dresden“ at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere vocal Competition at Oper Dortmund.
2023 his first SOLO-CD was published: „Sieben Gesänge“ - Gerhard Hauptmann Poems with music by Robert Kahn.
